Grants and Writing Resources for Xavier University
Xavier's Celebration of Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity was scheduled for April 22, 2026, in McDonald Memorial Library, with more than 100 student projects on the program for two afternoon poster sessions. The Graduate Research Symposium, where master's and doctoral students present posters of their research, was set for the next day on the fourth floor of the Health United Building.
Research Funding
Through summer research, undergraduates co-write a proposal with a faculty member in early spring, then spend up to ten weeks on original scholarship, paid at minimum wage. Participants present their work at the annual Summer Research Symposium. During the academic year, the Sister Thea Bowman Fellowship supports undergraduates in any major who qualify for Federal Work Study, and the Downing Research Scholarship is reserved for Williams College of Business students.
The Winter-Cohen Family Brueggeman Fellows Program takes up to eight graduate and undergraduate students a year from all four colleges. Fellows begin with independent study in January, spend four to eight weeks abroad on a summer research trip, and finish the project the following fall, with a research and travel stipend of up to $5,000. The program has sent more than 120 students to more than 60 countries.
Presenting Research
Xavier's annual Week of Research brings undergraduate, graduate and doctoral work together. Any undergraduate with a finished scholarly project can submit an abstract for an oral or poster presentation at the Celebration, and first-year seminar students share posters, websites and artwork at Flame. For the 2025 Celebration, the Celebration page announced that an Undergraduate Student Researcher of the Year would be recognized at the Academic Honors Convocation.
Student Writing in Print
The Xavier Writing Program collects strong essays from ENGL 101 and ENGL 115 in The Write Path, now in its eighth edition, including essays that won the D'Artagnan Award. Senior capstone theses from the Honors Bachelor of Arts, Xavier's oldest honors program, are published in the Exhibit repository.
Help With Writing
The James A. Glenn Writing Center in Room 400 of the Conaton Learning Commons tutors undergraduates and graduate students for free, in person, over Microsoft Teams or by email. Sessions last 50 minutes. Writers who need focus can book an accountability appointment, setting a goal and writing while a tutor is nearby, then reviewing progress together.
If you'd like an editor's eye on a thesis chapter or a research paper before it goes out, we can help. See our Xavier University dissertation and thesis editing and Xavier University essay editing pages, or write to editors@editorsforstudents.com.
