Grants and Writing Resources for Zhejiang University

The Zhejiang University Supercomputing Team finished fifth in the world on total score at the 13th ASC Student Supercomputer Challenge (ASC26) in 2026, and its five undergraduates won a First Prize and the Application Innovation Award. ZJU's synthetic biology students have done well abroad too. The mostly undergraduate HiZJU-China team earned a Gold Award and four Best nominations at iGEM 2024 in Paris. At the School of Micro-Nano Electronics, a selected doctoral dissertation earns 20,000 RMB each for its author and supervisor through the Excellent Graduate Dissertation awards.

Undergraduate Research and Competitions

Under its 2008 rules, ZJU's Student Research Training Program (SRTP) lets undergraduates run funded research projects at university and college levels, with a mid-term check, a final defense and credit on completion. At the ZJU-UIUC Institute alone, 48 SRTP projects were approved in 2022, from national-level projects down to institute-level ones.

Competition results give a sense of the standard. More than 20 students from the ZJU-UIUC Institute won two gold medals and two silvers across the International and Industry tracks of the 2025 China International College Students' Innovation Competition.

Dissertation Support

PhD students working toward an award-level dissertation can apply for the university's Funding for Striving for Outstanding Doctoral Dissertations (争创优秀博士学位论文资助). The 2019 notice set the stipend at 1,500 RMB a month within the standard years of study and 4,000 RMB a month beyond them, for one year, and asks supervisors to match it from their research grants.

Finished dissertations can be entered in the Graduate School's Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation selection, announced for 2026 on the ZJU Graduate School site. Some schools add their own prize. Under its 2022 trial rules, the School of Micro-Nano Electronics' Excellent Graduate Dissertation awards pay 20,000 RMB each to the author and supervisor of a selected doctoral dissertation and 10,000 RMB each for a master's thesis.

Library Help With Research and Publishing

The Zhejiang University Library's lecture series covers literature searching before a thesis proposal, with separate sessions for science and engineering and for the humanities and social sciences. Later talks this term cover formatting and proofreading a thesis with Word's AI tools and open access publishing. Recordings are posted for students who miss a session.

Students choosing a journal can start with the library's Submission Guide (投稿指南), which explains China's core journal lists and the SCI, SSCI and EI indexes. Graduate students can also take the library's elective in information retrieval, listed under Teaching and Training.

For a final edit before submission, our PhD-level editors work with ZJU students at every level. See our Zhejiang University dissertation and thesis editing page, or write to editors@editorsforstudents.com.
